(CNN)It started as a fun pajama party for 10 sixth-grade girls who make up Girl Scouts Troop It quickly evolved into something with much . In fact, one of the first books I ever got for my very own, a rare treasure as one of six children, was a book called Lassie and the Secret Friend. It’s a story about how Lassie found the rare and majestic bald eagle injured in the woods, and through a lot of effort brought her food, nursed her back to health, and saved her from an angry bear.

Directed by Franklin Adreon. With Lassie the Dog, Todd Ferrell, Charles Herbert, Mary Lawrence. Timmy and Boomer are disappointed when they find out that Lassie puppies are to be sold, meanwhile Lassie hide her pups in the woods to delayed the sale.   Eric Knight was born in in Yorkshire, England, the countryside that was the background for Lassie moved to the United States as a teenager. After graduating from Cambridge Latin School in Massachusetts, Eric Knight married and settled on a farm in Pennsylvania, where Lassie Come-Home was written and where the collie who inspired the book is buried.5/5(10).

Modern Farmer: Lassie is the most famous fictional farm dog that ever existed, but the history of where Lassie came from is a little bit unclear. What was the first instance of Lassie in popular culture? AC: Well, Lassie was born in a short story in in The Saturday Evening Post written by Eric Knight. Knight was an American citizen who had come from Britain.   The Girl in the Locked Room: A Ghost Story has 5 reviews and 7 ratings. This is a great book. This is the book that Rudd Weatherwax's son Bob took me to purchase. I enjoy the history of Lassie and reading about his training of tricks.

It was a collector's addition with the cover jacket and in excellent condition. Service was excellent. Terry5/5(7). The book is a little weak on the later television years, but the only reason this is a weakness is because the rest of the coverage is pretty strong.

In fact, this book's major flaw is that--it is not long enough. It left this reader wanting more, more, more about the Lassie phenomenon/5(16). “Lassie Come Home”, written by Eric Knight, is a heartwarming story about the loyalty of a dog to his family.

Since publishing it has remained one of the favorite books for children. The book was written in and has been translated into numerous different languages and editions, thanks to the immense popularity of this moving story.

One of the first appearances of Lassie was in the short story, “The Half-Brothers” written by the British writer Elizabeth Gaskell.

Lassie Come-Home is a novel written by Eric Knight about a rough collie’s trek over many miles to be reunited with the boy she loves. Author Eric Knight introduced the reading public to the canine character of Lassie in a magazine story published on Decemin The Saturday Evening Post, a story which he later expanded to a novel and published in to critical and commercial.

Where Lassie's ears stood in twin-lapped symmetry, this dog had one ear draggling and the other standing up Alsatian fashion in a way to give any collie breeder the cold shivers. Where Lassie's coat was rich tawny gold, this dog's coat had ugly patches of black; and where Lassie's apron was a billowing stretch of snow-white, this dog had.
